In December, Utah Valley University students pledged to “Give the Gift of Clean Air” by riding UTA this holiday season (you can pledge too, here)! Jordyn Bristol was nominated by her fellow UVU students as an example of a dedicated UTA rider and ambassador.

Jordyn is the reigning Miss Utah County! She is also a senior at Utah Valley University, working toward finishing her bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and Strategic Communication with a minor in Marketing. Additionally, Jordyn manages to balance her college schedule with work while still making time to volunteer with initiatives in her community. Most recently, she led a canned food drive for the food insecure and a winter clothing drive.

While at UVU, Jordyn has benefited from the UTA School Pass. This program allows UVU students to ride UTA free with their student ID.

Jordyn enjoys riding the FrontRunner and TRAX to downtown Salt Lake City, especially to attend concerts with friends. She is a well-organized, multitask-er and takes advantage of her time on the train to catch up on work, school and Miss Utah County responsibilities.

How long have you been riding?

“I started taking the train in December 2020 to go to Salt Lake City with friends. Since then, having a partner who lives in SLC and a close friend who lives in Ogden, I take the train about two or three times a week. I live close to Orem Station, so it is super easy to hop on the train whenever I want!”

Why do you ride?

“Being a student and having access to rides for free has been super beneficial in terms of saving money on gas and making an easier commute. With WiFi on the train too, I can get an hour of uninterrupted studying. During Free Fare February I saw how quickly the air quality was fixed by decreased individual travel and it encouraged me to keep riding.”

Do you have any rider tips?

“Be early! In two years, I have been late to a train an embarrassing number of times. Take a second as well to look up from your device and see how beautiful Utah is. Seeing the state from a train window has made me appreciate Utah so much more, especially in the winter. If you are going to an event as well, look for ways to use UTA which takes the stress of carpooling and relying on others, while also cutting back on your carbon footprint!”
